Studies on the Sustatined -Release Formulation of Guaiphenesin with Eudragit

Abstract
Abstract
@EN Matrix tablets containing guaiphenesin were prepared by direct compression with Eudragit L, Eudragit S polymer. Films containing guaiphenesin were also prepared. Effects of polymer ratio on drug release were investigated using KP VI basket
basket
method. Release studies were performed in fluid of pH 1.2 and pH 6.8 buffer solutions. All tablets in pH 1.2 buffer solution, during releases study, were found to be swollen without disintegrating and maintained their cylindrical shape. The
release
rate
of guaiphenesin from formulations decreased with an increase in polymer content. Significant decrease were observed in release of formulations whose Eudragit L, S content was 40% and over. The release rates from flims were significantly smaller
than
maxtrix tablet which containing same content of polymer. The release properties of these of these formulations showed diffusion mechanims. The release rates were controlled by the diffusion rates of drugs dissolved i their matrices when described
as
Higuchi's model. These results indicated that matrix tablets and films containing guaiphenesin would be useful as sustained-release formulations.
